Our 2013 Pilates conference
Our 2013 conference introduced some new movement therapies. The key presenter was Body and Movement Therapist, Fabiola Haru.
Fabiola talked about the concept of 'muscular chains' — how your main muscles work in a chain against gravity, and how this action affects your body alignment. Our attendees got to try out some exciting new equipment that were used in the movement therapies discussed at the conference.

Read what conference-goers said about the 2013 conference:
- Great conference, great group of people.
- Lots of great information to consume in one day.
- You covered and integrated a lot of new material (and theory) really well. The various posture types (response to gravity) were demonstrated really well by Fabiola and these are a takeaway as a body analysis tool and using it to determine the types of pilates/spring exercises that are indicated / contra-indicated.
I really liked the continued references to exercises and anatomical movement and how they integrate with daily function. A standout was the new exercises on new equipment and exploring these for the very first time. Loved the foam cube and gondola poles.

The 2013 conference day started with a mat class and continued with three workshops. Fabiola Haru led two workshops, "Muscular responses to gravity — a chain of actions" and "Natural bristle brushes and proprioception — refining agonist and antagonist muscular relationships". Our own PMA-certified Pilates teacher and Master Instructor, Tania Huddart, led the third workshop "Enhancing Pilates mat exercises by using muscular chains theory".
