Six tips to build your confidence so you don’t feel so nervous before a class

Here are six tips to help you boost your confidence

Consider your strengths

What abilities do you have? What do you think you do really well? Every teacher has strengths they bring to class and weaker areas to work on. To boost your confidence focus on your positive qualities. Make a list of your strengths. Focus on the things that make you unique as a teacher. Ask another Pilates teacher to list the strengths they see in your teaching approach.

Get some perspective

When you feel overwhelmed, try to break the problem into achievable chunks. Consider the exercises you want to teach. Can you relate them to an everyday action so people can see the relevance of the exercise? Focus on helping your clients achieve their movement goals. When they do, your confidence will shoot through the roof! You will have helped clients to be successful and make better movement choices for their bodies. How amazing is that? When your clients are successful then so are you.

Remember a teacher that was not so awesome

Did you have a teacher that put you to sleep? I can bet you’re a lot better than that! The fact that you’re reading this article, means you’re one of the many teachers who care about their clients and care about becoming better teachers.

Celebrate your students' achievements

You can acknowledge a client's achievements by using specific praise. You can even consider organising a special event at the end of a series of classes and going through everything they’ve learned. Remind them when they used to struggle to do specific exercises, and now they can do them with more ease. Celebrate their progress. You will boost their confidence and your own.

Use affirmations to cheer yourself on

Write positive statements about your abilities down and put them up where you can see them. Say your affirmations out loud to put yourself in a positive frame of mind before you teach. You can also congratulate yourself on what you did well at the end of a class. Celebrate your wins no matter how small.

Only by teaching can you gain experience

The best way to boost your confidence is by teaching. You have to take that first step.

The more you teach, the more confident you’ll feel. If you’re a new teacher there’s no way around it. You have to take action and practice your new skills until you can teach in your own way. When things don’t work out learn from that and try to resolve it the next time you teach. That is part of the journey. It keeps you engaged as a teacher and shows how much you care about the people you work with.

Why is it so important that you build your teaching confidence? Of course, there are lots of reasons but here are the top 2:

● MONEY

A business needs to earn money. It’s as simple as that. The more confident you are, the better you can communicate with your clients and help them solve their problems. When they reach their goals with your help, they will tell other people. As a result, more people get to know you provide an excellent service with real value. They are also more likely to sign up for classes if they are recommended by a friend or colleague.

●  DOING GOOD

You can help other people and make a difference in people’s lives. Sure money and freedom are beautiful things but knowing that other people are benefiting from something they learned from YOU.
There is nothing like being asked “
what do you do for a living?” and being able to reply with “I change people’s lives” .... that is an incredible feeling.

I could go on and on about the reasons why you need to be confident so you can get out of your head and into the world, like yesterday... But I think you get the point now ;)

The easy part is the desire.

Since you’re reading this, I assume you are curious. You have a strong desire or will to improve your confidence so that it allows you to make an impact and also gives you a level of life-changing income and freedom!

Creating classes that transition well makes your class feel like a story, not a random list

A class that flows creates a deeper connection for clients with their bodies. They also want to come back to your classes for more. I like to think of flow in a class as a way of telling a body story. A story people can get engrossed in and come away with a renewed sense of awe.
